Recommend an MOT Station
Hi all
Can anyone recommend a friendly MOT station where i can take my rush for a pre SVA MOT test. I live only a few miles from Cateringham in Surrey.
I had to put some tyres on the eurobox last Saturday and i happened to ask if he could MOT a 7 type car. I lost the will to live when he said
"the computer says no ... we only do normal cars "
any thoughts most welcome

That's bullpoop
He puts the details in from your logbook and it tells him what it is registered as, a 2 seater sports car. Do they not test MR2 or MX5 either?

hi ya , i am an mot tester , all they have to do is enter the details manually from your v5 , ask them if there is any body there that knows what they
are doing

I think the problem is that the original V5 when punched into the pc tells them what the braking efficency should be. In my case the doner is a 2
tonne SD1 rover ..... So how does that work

PRE SVA MOT , he has no v5 yet so no details . Just get him to do an MOT test without registering the car for test . MOT is not needed

thats true , for brake test they should use a deceloromer , put it in the passinger floorwell and go for a spin , you dont need a reg number or
chassis number to have a computerised m.o.t , you just type in NOT DISPLAYED for the reg and NOT FOUND for chassis number . but as just mentioned you
do not need an m.o.t for the s v a test , once s v a tested it does not need an m o t for 3 years

Correction, once SVA tested it most certainly does need an MoT unless it's built from new parts, it does not need an MoT just for the first year
as "they" have decided that an SVA will suffice, but it does need an MoT thereafter.
I no longer run Furore Products or Furore Cars Ltd, but would still highly recommend them for Acewell dashes, projector headlights, dominator

Wrong. Once SVA'd and registered, the date of manufacture is indicated on the V5C. The vehicle does not need an MOT until the third anniversary
of that date. However, if you decide to get your vehicle MOT'd before this date, then you will be on DVLA's database and the vehicle will
require an MOT every year thereafter.

Phil, that's exactly what I've been told and lead to believe, but is there anywhere I could find that in writing ?
I'm just concerned that after my SVA anniversary I don't want any sticky questions from the police, especially considering the amount of
attention they seen to give me !

Defo wrong. My local DVLA definitely said no MOT for 3 years. When i tried to tax car after first 6 months online taxing asked for MOT. I phoned local
centre back up, she explained Swansea had cocked up the V5 and no MOT for 3 years. She got me to send it back to her with cheque for tax and she would
sort it out. V5 now returned but i guess i wont know if its ok until next tax date.

Mine's been on the road now for 2 1/2 years, never needed an MOT to tax it. Will
need one next year though

Sorry if I've mislead anyone, but basically the same thing as above happened to me except the opposite result, they insisted it did need Mot -
does the "Q" plate make any difference here, my understanding was that, unless built from new parts the only MoT you skipped was the first
one?
Seems to be interpreted differently depending on which Jobsworth you have on your case.

It is extremely misleading Russ. The DVLA i mean not you.
I know someone with a Mac#1 who was made to MOT their car before DVLA would register it and issue the tax. I think it was Mac#1 or another owner who
kicked up a fuss and the MOT fee ended up being refunded and V5 changed. I remember there was a thread at the time and i think a copy of the letter
was posted. Probs about 12months + ago. If anyone finds it please bring it back to the top. One of the posters might have been 'Mac1' or
minimanred. I seem to think it was bigrich or rich staniforth who it affected.
The very nice lady at my DVLA did say she had heard similar stories but assured me she was 100% correct in the advice she was giving me. All of this
was in relation to me qualifying for an age related plate so i have to admit that i cannot hand on heart etc state that the same applies to a Q.
However iam reasonably sure that the law is that following successful SVA then no MOT is required from the date of first registration until the third
anniversary regardless of what index is issued.
This is probs the single biggest area of misconception in building a kit car. With the number of members that we have on this forum its amazing that
no-one works for or has relations who work at DVLA. If you are keeping quiet then please speak up.
