Does a fuel guage need to work for MOT?
Thinking of using orginal Bike clocks for my BEC but wasnt nessarily going to put a fuel sender in the tank. Would it be an MOT failure if the guage
was present but not working?

Yup. According to this site http://www.motuk.co.uk/manual_720.htm fuel gauge is not mentioned.
Interestingly
my Peugeot has passed its Mot three times so far without working reversing
lights. Just as well. A mechanic tells me its probably a sensor switch inside the gearbox which is faulty & would require a massive strip down to
repair.

Neither reverse lights nor fuel guage are part of the test
I no longer run Furore Products or Furore Cars Ltd, but would still highly recommend them for Acewell dashes, projector headlights, dominator
headlights, indicators, mirrors etc, best prices in the UK! Take a look at http://www.furoreproducts.co.uk/ or find more parts on Ebay, user names
furoreltd & furoreproducts, discounts available for LCB users.
Don't forget Stainless Steel Braided brake hoses, made to your exact requirements in any of around 16 colours.

But.... isn't the rules for reverse lights (amongst other things) that if they're fitted they have to work?

Yes - that was my thinking too. The MOT manual site listed above states "hazard warning devices" wouldn't the reversing lights which
don't illuminate the drivers view very well warn others of the vehicles intention to travel in the wrong direction? Also wouldn't someone
travelling on a motorway need to know if they have enough fuel to the next serivice station so they don't get trapped on the hard shoulder?

Hazard warning devices refers only to hazard flasher lights.

if you would drive in a fire you couldn´t drive away from it.

Reverse light will only fail if perminantly on as it will show white light to the rear, dosnt need to work though , fuel gauge is no part of an mot
eather. As already mentioned all you need on the dash is tell tail lamps i.e fog lamp. hazards etc
