One seat in car for SVA
I've removed the passenger seat and harness from my car for SVA (I know others on here have done the same) for a couple of reasons.
now I'm just wondering whether to put it down as one or two seat on the SVA form?
(i.e. if I put one seat, is it single seater forever! )

yeah that was my worry as well, don't know what would happen so I'm fitting two seats for the test

I had one seat for the test. Still gets registered as two seater
Only slight problem was that for my first test the SVA area examiner insisted that any chassis captive nuts for harnesses were decomissioned to
prevent someone from putting in a seat after SVA. Some cut down bolts did the trick. Unfortunately, after SVA I had to slot the bolts and take them
out with a screwdriver- can't remember why now

OK - I'll be the one to ask - why would you not want both seats in at SVA time?

My concern was the issue of storage of a passenger harness, not sure how to do that, a bag or bungee cord??

seats are moulded for 2 specific people and due to my girlfriend's dimensions (she's quite small! ) I don't think the second seat
will pass the height reqmts for harness heights, plus i'm not sure the sva will like the way the harnesses fit roudn the handbrake cables on the
passenger side, btu there is no room for any other way

surely though you can raise the base of the passenger seat for the test?? not sure about this handbrake cable thing though sounds very odd

In my case I couldn't afford the second seat (at the time of SVA)..... and also I wanted to fit quick release harnesses but worried about SVA
compatibility so bought one normal harness, which has sat unused every since I wipped it out pronto post SVA....

Oi - get it tested with two harnesses !
I blooming well lent you my harness you can use it
Don't understand the problem, surely small = lower = better for sva.
Need to pop roudn and see how your doing.

I did exactly this and it was because the space for my handbrake cable and balance mechanism was very limited. It made adjusting the handbrake tricky
and I wasn't sure I could keep everything clear for the sva man - but I could for my satisfaction. So I left the seat out - as it worked out I
needed to paly around with the handbrake for sva - a process which would have been very difficult had the seat been there.
After SVA I went down the road to the dvla and registered it as a 2 seater even with only one seat fitted. the dvla inspector said - "well
there's space for 2 seats"

Exactly the same situation as mine (as Chris knows, he's looked at my car in the past) the handbrake mech is nicely out of the way on the
passenger side of the tunnel, and while the harness will be fine by my judgement, it can, at some angles, rub the handbrake cable, although there is
rubber in between.
I'm not bothered, as I never use the handbrake apart from for MOT's, but sva man might be, so its one less thing to worry about.
I just didn't want to be stuck with it registered as a single seater, but Chris has cleared that up.
cheers
Nat
