Exhaust routing

Just a quickie:

Is it ok for the exhaust to run down the side of the car if it is outside the wheelbase? My wheels aren't far enough out to keep it inside of the wheels.

Obviously it needs a heat shield and no sharp bits...

Cobras have external exhausts, so there shouldn't be a problem.

Or should I say those cars that look a little bit like Cobras?

I'm building a thing that very vaguely follows the book, but 50' wide, i designed it around the seat i had already bought! Uses sierra running gear so the tyres are only 3 or 4 inches outside the side panels, which is a bit tight for the xorst.

I should have spent more time designing it but at least i know for next time! More triangles, less squares...
