Steering Column & Shafts Etc...

I've got standard Mk2 Escort rack.

Lower shaft is solid bar mounted to the rack with a Group4 UJ (no rubber).

Top of this shaft is the triangular housing for the end of the Sierra column.

Sierra column has the sliding traingular section, but I am not using the top crushable housing bit that the stalks bolt to (I'm using the solid ali ne supplied by ST with my paddle shift).

Do I need the top housing to be crushable for SVA???

There is a fair bit of dogleg angle where the lower shaft meets the Sierra column and the traingular housing on the end of the lower shaft is doglegged anyway.

The Sierra column also slides on impact.

Will I get away without the crushable top bit?

Thanks,

Pat...

You should get through with the triangular sliding bit, the 10° angle on the down link should cover it too.

yours, Pete

I went into the RSPCA office the other day. It was so small you could hardly swing a cat in there.
