I went into the RSPCA office the other day. It was so small you could hardly swing a cat in there.

Was going to suggest you took the dog with you- just to keep the examiner's mind off any dodgy bits (but of course there aren't any - are
there?).
Come on tell us wer're all busting a gut waiting to hear if it passed!

Right
Im home now, i trailerd it to the centre to be certain it got there and so i could take a few tools etc.
took my time getting back taking the opertunity to go and show a couple of my mates the car seeing as i had the luxury of the trailer ( thanks a lot
OX).
Its fair to say i really enjoyed to day even if a smidgen dissapointed with the outcome
Its quite a nice new facility they have there but quite a pshcological set up too, all down one lane from test bed to test bed, its like running the
gauntlet!
First up were the emissions, not expecting to whizz through as i had not had them pre set at a test station. However it failed on Fast idle and
proceeded to boil over and dump al oad of water on the new floor ops: I will be posting my results in another thread to get feeback on the best way
to overcome my fail results.
once that was out the way the rest of the test seemed to go very well, all thanks the the tester who was very fair and explained above and beyond the
call of duty what he was doing and was looking for and how to 'play' the manual to best effect, top bloke and made the whole experience a
lot less daunting.
My shoddy brakes that i posted about a few days ago - un changed might i add scored a very nice balance figre and a deceleration reading of 90+%
maybe i am just used to tintop brakes - its been a while since i drove a seven
I was nicely surprised with the weights too, 480KG with full fuel but no driver.
So the fail points were
Emissions - need advice and trial and error
One weld missing on chassis, easliy rectified
Self amalgamating tape on top bone not acceptable - they are happy with rubber hose and cable ties though so easy fix.
The weld lines on the exhaust collector were not to 2.5mm min rad - easy fix with yet another heat shield!
Speedo rear 2.7% under what i was actually doing again, now i have the real figures its an easy fix with the speedo healer.
Self centering, my interpretation fo the test was that you drive round in a tight circle or pull away with a decent amount of lock on and let go of
the wheel and see if it makes an effort to self centre...............
Not so, driving at between 10 and 20 mph the tester weaves marginally from right to left letting go of the wheel to see if it makes any effort to self
centre.
My car will unwind from a decent lock but not from weaving side to side. - need to play with pressures and toe out. I was advised that showing up at
the re-test with a car that looks like it got that much toe outi t wants to go in 2 seperate directions would not be a good idea as its blatently
obvious that your not going to keep it like that.
Not a bad list, my main concern is the emissions and the fact that it boiled over during the fast idle test, it aint gonna pass the emissions if it
cant complete the test.
I was complimented on the quality of the build and how minor the fail point were.
Im knackered now so im off for a kip, gonna have a couple of car free days to relax and then get on with sorting out the issues ready for re test
time.
thanks for all you help, advice and constructive comments so far everyone

That sounds v. positive so good on you.
Only thing that concerns me is the "weld missing" - what did that relate to?
Can't help with the rest though as mine is still to be fired up - maybe this weekend (and before anyone says it - yes I have said that
before!).
Cheers, Pewe

It was a chassis mod i had to do to get my R1 headers in propperly, it was welded on 3 of the 4 sides of the RHS so not drastic but needs doing all
the same.
My fault, must have gone to get another beer and forgot where i was at with it all
