Newby, New Build, EU Law...

Hello everyone, my first post so please be patient as I have some questions before starting my build.

Firstly, I am from the UK but have a job in France and now live out here! I have brought over my MK2 escort but have decided that it is too much "bother" to go through the procedures of registering the car in France but have registered the car with DVLA as permanently exported. Will this cause a future problem if I build the car in France and ship it back for the SVA?

Secondly, the escort donar car is RHD and I intend to buy a LHD quickrack from RallyDesign.co.uk to use instead of the stock RHD rack. Will this be just a matter of welding column brackets on other side or is there anything that may get in the way? Plus will DVLA "frown" on a car that is LHD? Will the changeover of LHD/RHD cause a problem in the wiring loom?

Has anyone done the same kind of project (UK/France) and (1600 xflow) etc?

Finally, when the car does get through the SVA and is registered correctly in UK I will definately want to register it in France. But, I will need a letter of conformity from the manufacturer of the vehicle to testify its roadworthiness (if that is a word!!) in EU. Does anyone know who does this? A club maybe? Or is it a case of contacting Ford to have them write the letter?

Thanks in advance for any advice if only you answer one of my questions will be a step in the right direction.

Regards
Andy

Think your EU certificate of conformity might be a bit of a prob as applies to the whole car IIRC. Would assume that the fact it gets a MAC would be enough - May be worth getting hold of a brain in VOSA...

Sorry can't help with the rest but best of luck with the souscost

p.s. Official welcome to the nuthouse

I may be wrong but i was told that France do not allow exposed exhausts so you may need to check that out.
