Chassis Plate

I've now had several conversations with Byron at VOSA Exeter and he really is a very constructive and helpful chap. On the subject of chassis plates, he says that the VIN number should either be stamped onto the chassis or the VIN plate welded to the chassis on the basis that a riveted plate can easily be removed. Also, it is a very good idea to have a number of VIN plates in different places on the chassis that only you know where to look so that you can identify your car/chassis after it has been stolen.

I stamped a plate and welded it on. Also made an ali plate riveted on bulkhead. Ive also wrote the chassis number in various hidden and visible locations around the car on chasis and other components.
Bulkhead plate also has postcode on to aid identification should the worst happen.

OK this is one of my final jobs. I was hoping to get away with using something like JB welb to fix a plate to the chassis as I dont have a welder.

Will this do or must it be welded?

I stamped the vin number in a couple of places. Try stamping on a thicker part of the chassis if possible , diff mounting was ideal and not obvious. Thinner parts such as box section tend to deform if stamp is hit hard enough to leave impression in the metal
