Emissions on a Registered Car
Sorry if this is a really dumb question:
I currently don't have to worry about emissions regs at the moment in my X-Flow Striker as she's "R" (1977) registered .
But when i change my engine to a modern Zetec i assume nothing changes so i can buy an engine of any vintage and just throw away all the emission
control stuff like Cat's ?
Can't I ?

Didn't know what I was doing when I started .... And I still don't ... !!

I suspect you could have problems at the MOT if the tester works out the engine is later than the original. I suspect the car will be tested according
to the year of engine. You will get away with no cat/carbs on a pre early 95 zetec, but latter than that all engine had a cat fitted. You're
other option is to fit what you like and hope the MOT tester ain't got a clue as to what level he should test the emissins to!

An MOT will be conducted against the cars reg. The only bit I am not sure about is when you change the engine do you have to go for an SVA or do you
just inform the DVLA. I am sure that other will know about this.
