Intake on the outside?

Still thinking about fitting a Jag V12 but i have one question at the moment.
My rough estimation is that the engine would fit into the chassis like this:

Image deleted by owner

As you can see, the air intakes would protrude from the bonnet. Is this an SVA issue? Also if my estimations and calculations are wrong and the manifolds protrude slightly, would that be an SVA issue?
I havnt definaty decided on a V12 but if i do decide, i might do it pre SVA so i can get it on the road and challenge all you bec boys

How long can i resist the temptation to drop a V8 in?

and

2nd thoughts?!

reckon you would be fine if you were to make a few bonnet bulges to the sides of the bonnet. no sharp edges, still within the wheels... should be fine

There seems to be an implication in the SVA manual that there will be an 'engine cover' but I think you'll be ok with just the inlet's uncovered assuming there are no sharp bits.
Plenty of people have airfilters stuck out of the bonnet.

12 bike carbs stuck out the bonnet would look pretty impressive.

what a balancing act that would be...

bike carbs eh? bike carbs would make the engine taller, but narrower by the looks of things. plus going by that photo, you could mount them easily by cutting up the orginal manifold?

Could you not replace the dizzy with coil packs, the bin the "pair" of inlet plena and replace with single central one?

See if this works -

Look at the front sccop - behind that is one of the air filters connected to turbo by flexi pipe. Food for thought

Edited - It didn't - see post on blog dated 29th Dec about 6th pic down.

Edited again - missed a bit - does now

I would get you 6 in and plan for that great lump later. I have a picture somewhere with a V12 in a Cobra with all the carbs down the middle. But i can't find it I did take the picture at the Motor Show in Earls Court, 1989

Is that a +4" chassis you're planning?

You could always make it more than that if necessary... I'm pretty sure the Viento is +6" or something.

And add a couple of inches in height to it.

I did mine by adding 10% to the length of most tubes! Gave +4" in the cockpit and about 1.75" extra at the end of the nose... which is small enough to mean a standard nose will fit if set a little forwards.

The plan was it would still look ok as it's same proportions as a Locost.

Guess beauty must be int he eye of the beholder!

No its based on the haynes roadster chassis (+442) but the engine bay is 6 inches longer and the nose 6 inches wider. The six i have hanging in it at the moment fits quite well and with loads of space on either side.
To give you idea:

Jaguar AJ6 4.0L 531lb's 240.27kg
Jaguar V12 680lb's 307.69kg
Rover V8 318lb's 143.89kg

I know an RV8 is half the weight but i dont think you can squeeze 6-700 horses out of an RV8
Also the chassis is made of thicker steel and more triangulation to (hopefully) cope with the power if i ever do get it up to that. I am also going to use the jag bones and diff.
Its going to be a heavy bugger (i think close to 1 ton ) but it should go when i want it to

Even at 1000kg it will still be 10% less in weight than a modern performance fiesta. It won't really be a 7 anymore, but hey if it makes you happy

Although it will be more complicated to change the plans going up in tube size is worth more to stiffness than a wall upgrade (per kg).
I'd be thinking 30x30 tubes at least and maybe 40x40 in places. They will also help with the visual scale of the thing IMO.

Iank - the six seems to look ok in the chassis at the moment. There was a guy who put a 4.0 six into a viento or something i think. Might look later and see if i can contact him to see what his is like

I was thinking more from the point of view that the engine is twice as heavy as a pinto (and 5x the power) so it's going to show up any lack of stiffness over the whole car. Better to add that via bigger tubes than thicker wall ones.

The visual scale comment was that the chassis tubes are going to look a bit spindly next to a monster v12.

Might be worth looking up the guy who's putting the viper engine in a viento to see what he's done with the chassis, the torque and power will probably look similar to the jag v12.

Yeah iv subscribed to that thread and might have a closer look at his pics and see if i can add some bigger tubes as you say. The last thing i was is to end up going in a different direction to the rest of the car
