Passed at Yeading!
Only those of you who have successfully passed SVA will know just how good it is to be given that all important scrap of paper!
It passed 2nd time after a couple of fail items from the first test that were unexpected.
When a straight edge was placed across the rear wheel arches the tyre wall, not the tread, protruded slightly this required the spacing out the read
wings off the body with some 0.75" mdf. (looks naff you can guess how long thats going to stay there!!)
Also had to cover in all the underdash area to satisfy the sharp edge regs even though SVA manual said it was a no test area. Had to rewire the
Hazards to operate with the 'Key out' they were working with Ignition off as per SVA manual but it is required to work key removed.
Recalibrated the Smiths speedo using a Handheld GPS and an excellent download doc on repairing Smiths speedo (search 'Anthony Rhodes'
& 'Smiths'
Had to unsolder hairspring and reduce tension but it was within 3mph across the whole range at the SVA.
Overall it took 3 and half years but in that time I also build a workshop to do the build in, had 2 major eye operations that for a time had me
wondering how I could redesign the car to be driven by a Labrador but blatting along this afternoon in the rain with a silly grin on my face must have
had the onlookers questioning my sanity.
For those of you whose inspiration is flagging I say 'see it thru its worth the effort!'

Well, that's one thing I'll have to sort out! My tyre wall is proud of the arch a little bit. Better to sort it now...
cheers,
David

My tyre wall is within the rear arches but part of my 8 spoke alloys protrudes outside of the arches, is that a fail? If so I'll do the SVA with
the donor wheels on.
7 out of 10 people suffer with hemorrhoids. Does that mean the other 3 enjoy them?

Oh yes.The importance of a 8x10(ish) piece of paper.Congratulations.If you felt like me after passing, sorting out the middle east is a piece of
cake. They seem to work with the manual in hand at Yeading. Is that the case?Anyway well done.

Bloody Hell You cannot hide from anyone these days I suppose you saw me in Tesco's carpark with both rear wheels off weatherproofing the wiring
under the wings. That was the only point raised on the 2nd test and the examiner agreed that if we returned with the wiring protected he would issue
the cert.
