logbook & certificate

(im posting this for someone from the dutton site)

good afternoon,
Ive just bought a dutton type B (converted in 1973)off e-bay, it needs a lot of work but its just what ive been looking for,
On the log book it is still registered as a triumph vitesse (which i beleive was normal practice at the time if most of the donner vehicle was used),
the number stamped on the chassis is the same as the triumph,
i live in france & to bring back & register here i need a certificate to say that the triumph was converted into a Dutton chassis,
so, is there a makers certificate available or is it possible to have proof from an old register (dutton club? or other ? )
if i cant find proof ive just got a lovely chassis for nothing,
help! thanks very much, david

My first impressions are that he should just say it was a rebodied triumph and leave it at that as I thought amateur built cars were not allowed in France anyway and if he said it was such would have no hope of using it over there and lose any chance of registering it in this country without an SVA and Q plate, which I think an old Dutton would probably not be able to pass without lots of extra work and money.

Keep it as it is and don’t mention anything about any Dutton chassis.

If it's been on the road a certain number of years, incorrectly registered. There is (or was) a (legit) way of getting it re-registered without the hassle of the SVA.
