Having nearly finished

Its time to start thinking about tests and SVA. Can anyone tell me how to go about getting the relavent info on the chassis test, mot , and SVA, how to apply and costs. Any help would be appreciated

I'm going through the same thing myself.

As I under stand it - and it's open to correction - first you need to apply to the DVLA for a chassis number, they'll want to see reciepts etc and will decide if a Q plate is appropriate. After you are given a chassis number (and you stamp it onto yer chassis) you can apply for an SVA or MOT date. If you ring Swansea on 01792 782341 you can get the application forms sent out to you. Both of these have to be passed, but can be done in any order. Once the SVA is passed a Minister's Approval Cert (MAC) is given to you, which you can take back to your DLVA (with yer MOT pass) and hand over some cash for a tax disk.
No doubt I have left off a load of details, but that's as I understand it.
All the best of luck.

There is still some debate over whether you need an MOT or not
my local DVLA says not, because year of manufacture will appear on V5 as 2004 regardless of age related or Q plate - so no MOT for 3 years!.
Best bet is to phone your local DVLA and ask them.....

best bet is get an mot

several reasons

1. it gives you a chance to drive the car to MOT legally - which lets you test it prior to SVA.

2, the mot will pick up stuff that wont pass sva.

3. your post office etc might not understand you dont need to show an mot as your car has an old registration.

4. plod also may not understand why you cant produce, or dont have, an mot on an old registration plate. worse still, if its not clear globally, the magistrate may also be confused.......

id get an mot - lots of benefits and less hassle.

I need mine done soon (Tiger Cat) as just have mirrors and bootlid to fit, and got a load of forms from the local DVLA on registering. On the leaflet it asks for a Form V627/1 for completion prior to inspection but wasn't included.

Anyone know what this is?

I've sent off for my chassis number, waiting for it to come back so I can then apply for an SVA. Expected Northern Ireland waiting time for and SVA date is 8 weeks apparently
I have about 1 weeks work left to do.
I am very frustrated.
Mind you that's nothing to do with my car
