SVA question regarding a fail

If you fail the sva do you get given a list of items that need to be fixed such as at an mot or do you have to write it down?
And how is a retest arranged? do you do it there at the testing station or do you have to cantact the place the forms were sent off to?

You get a failure list.

Re-test can be arranged then or by phoning the testing station later. You don't have to deal with VOSA Swansea again.

Hi Tommy,

It's very straightforward. The tester will discuss with you the faults and may even suggest ways of overcoming them. When you have carried out the rectification work all you have to do is telephone or call in and arrange a new appointment direct with your tester. You will only be charged about £30 for the retest and he will check just the items it failed on.

They've got specific paper sheets for failure points. I unfortunately got onto a second sheet on my first SVA test....
They won't write down what you need to do in order for it to pass, however (though they will tell you verbally) so it might be worth taking some paper just to jot down some notes...

What happens if you fail again at the retest either by misunderstanding something or by something else breaking or being noticed during the retest? Do you get another chance for a retest or do you have to re-apply for SVA/IVA from the start?

Regarding the retest, at Nottingham they told me I had to ring Swansea, as they were no longer allowed to give out the direct number, but then insist on being put through to Nottingham to discuss when they have space available. Depending on how long they think it will take will depend when they fit you in. The retest fee is now £38, you can fail again & retest again for £38 & again & again etc. However I 'think' you can only keep retesting for 6 months before you would have to then resubmit for IVA.
As was said it's all written down for you, my experience of Nottingham is they will talk you through the faults & suggest remedial actions. Whether you want to take notes really is down to your own memory.

small tip which I found useful. When the tester comes back with your fail list (hopefully that wont happen) go round the car an take a photo of each item on the list that way if it's written slightly vaguely you'll be able to refer to the actual problem.

Good luck

Retest is £38.
It can be done at the centre.

I failed on front brake discs...( Don't ask !!)
Easy fix, infact I asked if I could do it during my "Tinkering time"
He said no, thats a little too much tinkering...

Booked it straight after the test for one week later.
Following week he just put the car on the rollers..30 mins later MAC in hand, jobs a goodun....
