It will be electronic tagging of vehicles next...

Linky

Our brave government's latest plan to 'help' the motorist.

Apparently this will save up to 250 lives a year and no doubt vastly improve the holiday destinations of the owners of Speed Check Services (ooh a private company in a monoploy service position to the government? - what a surprise...)

Utter, utter @~*&£%^&£$$!!!!!!

I wondered if a small poll wasn't in order - so who would you like to run you?

It's not new, they have been restricting road speed over the last 5 years.
Lots of A roads between Mitcham and Bognor Regis have been changed from 60 to 40, like the burgh heath road from the A217 to Box Hill.
It's been happening far longer than this report.
Some roads do need lower limits. It is rediculous that some single track roads are 60. The box hill road has lots of T junctions and a golf course where people cross the road.
If people have a speed bug that they feel they need to satisfy, track days are the only safe option for everyone.

The road going past my house is a 30, on the other side is a school with 1500 kids. It should be a 20 IMO.

1/2 mile further on it goes into country side and was 60 until a few months ago, now the first half is 30 and in the middle of it to goes to 40.

AND I would like to add 3,500 people died in hospital last year from MRSA type infections they didn't go in with. Whats Brown doing about that???

So, statically, your more likely to survive the crash than you are going into hospital with a non live threatening injury or illness

I don't particularly speed and I'd expect the vast majority on this forum to be hugely sensible and safe drivers given that they've invested many hours and many pounds in their pride and joys. Giving it 'the beans' is therefore something done under the 'right' conditions and with appropriate judgement.

What makes me angry to the point of eating my own arm is any government that believes it is had the right to question my judgement - I know the rules, I'll obey or face the consequences - the fact that they then spend vast amounts of our tax money in the most inefficient way imaginable (other than piling it in the road and setting a match to it - oh dear, come to think of it, that's capital easing isn't it) just adds insult to injury.

Frankly, I never felt less 'free' in this supposed bastion of democracy than I do now...

It has been said before & I WILL repeat it. It is NOT pure speed that kills, IF it was then the copper should have received a life time ban for 156mph. No, it is inappropriate speed in conjunction with DANGEROUS driving that kills. The Government is only going down the road that it is because it is a income earner for them and is easily spotted and prosecuted with the limited resources that the 'police' have. The government needs to STOP meddling with the police force and allow them to do what they are there for.
Increase the number of policemen (&women), make them concentrate on the proper crimes, and allow the traffic police to enforce BASIC driving standards with the courts coming down hard on DANGEROUS driving practices. If the prisons end up so crowded then tough, IF you don't like being in a harsh penal system then its simple, - DON'T do the crime.

Stop coming out with stupid CR*P like 'don't send criminals to prison if they have a drugs habit'. ------------ To quote a well know phrase WTF?

The idea has come from a accross the atlantic already some US models have GPS tracking built into the ECU and looks like it will form part of the proposed OBDIII --- in which the goverment will be able perform emmision check on your vehicle via the cell phone network.

short and to the point
unfortunately this government is determined to turn GB into a communist state that will resemble north korea where the chosen few and their cronies will have everything and us mere mortals will be groveling in the gutter.
plod were saying they expect trouble once summer arrives so they are frightened and will prob have armed troops on the streets to keep us in order.

Won't happen round my way. Far too many roads, with far too many little side turns. And even if they do have a SPECS camera at every junction, the local tool place hire Stihl saws.
Damn fool Gov't trying to interfere with every day life again. They really won't be happy until every one is tracked 24 hrs a day, all in the name of either road safety, anti-terrorism or saving the planet.
Or, it's the easiest way of getting a wide network of cameras in place so they can bring in road tolls.

It's all got a bit

So basically pure caitalism doesn't work and will ultimately crash due to the greed of a few and to quote Winston Churchill (1945) ". . . a socialist policy is abhorrent to the British ideas of freedom. Socialism is inseparably interwoven with totalitarianism and the object worship of the state. It will prescribe for every one where they are to work, what they are to work at, where they may go and what they may say. Socialism is an attack on the right to breathe freely. No socialist system can be established without a political police. They would have to fall back on some form of Gestapo, no doubt very humanely directed in the first instance.

Think we're buggered.

How about what my late Nan used to always say 'do as you would be done by'?...

Good point, how many SPECS cameras would you need on the nations backroads to enforce an AVERAGE 50mph down from 60? There's not many of the type of roads they say they are targeting that you could maintain a consistent 60mph on. It's only an average afterall.

Or is the idea that you get stuck behind the drongos who don't understand how it works and will not go over 40 at any point 'just in case' therefore slowing down the whole road network?
