SVA fail Southampton (viento)
All in all a fantastic day out, the guys there are fantastic and super helpfull.
I had a sleepless night and after today i dont know why i was worring.
Failed on:
Head lights: were to far in from the widest point so have to make the brackets a bit longer, no problem there
Bias bar: Need to lock it, could have done it there but as it failed on other things i am going to do it at home
Exposed wires: Need to put some split conduit on a few wires.
Speedo: Only reeds up to 30mph and then no more, poss sensor wheel bent a little bit, may take a bit longer to fix
And the final one
Emissions!!!: My engine is late 93 and i thought that it had to be tested to 3.5%co and HC 1200ppm but i was tested on the CAT test which it failed on
which also ment i needed a restrictor on the fuel filler and failed that
I remember only a few days ago someone had the same problem, i think it was Slater? Does anybody have a name of someone helpfull to speak to? as i
would like to have it in writing to present to the inspector to get the easy test.
I have just rang the VOSA techincal people and got the most unhelpfull person ever.
But on a good note that was all it failed on and i was woried about my exhaust noise but i got 99.3db with my oe GSXR1000 bike can on the red
top.
And i have the biggest grin ever.

Good fail that man and shouldn't be too tricky to fix them.
Not long now.

I think section 2.18 of the SVA manual is pretty clear, is an engine is pre aug 1995 then it has the non-catalyst emissions test.
I don't understand how this could be misunderstood my any tester?
You could take the manual along to the next test with the relevant bits highlighted?

Afte 31st July 1992 you use the CAT flowchart to determine the test standard. This is found in the SVA Manual, Section 18, Page 12:
quote:
Is it a passenger car?
>
Yes
>
Vehicle effective date between 1 Aug 1992 and 31 July 1995?
>
Yes
>
Can you find an exact match in the analyser database or the In-Service Emissions Book?
>
No
>
Carry out non-CAT test (HC<1200ppm CO < 3.5%)
Note: finding an exact match would require the vehicle to be a production car in which case you may have to do a CAT test if the vehicle was fitted
with a CAT from new. Moot point now anyway since SVA is only for cars less than 10 years old!

Not a bad fail mate.
That emmissions is bollox. I cant see how a tester thats been on it for probably years and does these evryday doesnt know.

Did you give proof of engine age, if not that could be why they did a CAT test.
Steve.

Challenge the tester over the emissions, some one else did it last week and won.
Any pre Aug 95 does not require a cat or unleaded insert.

Yup. You don't need a restrictor and you shouldn't have failed on emissions. Strange that they didn't know that.....
I'd take along a copy of the SVA manual for the re-test.
If you've got a laptop there are PDF copies out there on the internet!!!

Yes that was me, see my post last Friday.
Mine failed on emissions and nozzle restrictor. But on advice from Mac#1 I went back in and explained I thought he'd done the wrong test, he
called his SVA tech man in Swansea who confirmed the wrong test was done. A pre-95 engine only needs a natural idle test with <3.5% CO and <1200
PPM's. Nozzle restrictor rule does not apply.
On your re-test get him to double check the manual, if he is still in dought get him to call SVA tech guy in Swansea.
Worked for me on the day. All credit to Mark @ Mac#1 for this advice on the day.

Why do they call Port Harcourt "The Garden City"?...... Becauase they can't spell Stramash.
