SVA Fail
Failed SVA today at Beverley, which is a bit of a bugger.
Still, I'd steeled myself for failure on emissions and noise as there was no way of me knowing what the levels were from my own garage.
I also failed on self centering, speedo calibration, a brake bind on the rear and no secondary method of securing the mushroom caps on the uprights -
I'd never heard of this requirement before (well, someone said it had been pulled up at their test, but it sounded like an oddball one off).
The tester suggested a grub screw type arrangement through the upright to pin the mushroom woule be adequate.
So, I have a list of things to do and some weekends of work ahead of me. However, now that I've broken the back of the whole thing, I feel
strangely good about the bit of work I have to finish - probably because I've got a definitive list of things to do to get it on the road.

Hard luck, all in all sounds like a reasonably good fail. mushroom security seems to be test centre dependant, mine wasn't questioned

Yes, I nearly didn't want to admit it at all, but fair is fair - I should have listened to Mark and glued a bolt head onto the upright...

Hi i failed today as well but take the good with the bad in that you made it to sva and have 6 months for a retest as i almost didnt make it to mine
this morning. Mine also failed on emissions - what are you going to do with yours if you dont mind me asking? are you using a speedo healer?

Too bad about the fail, but like you say - take the bad with the good.
I've got a speedo healer, but it obviously needs a bit of adjustment - it was only 1mph on the tolerence, but was still reading 70mph and 56
actual.
I'm just going to put together a programme fo work and crack on - I feel a lot of the frustrations have been taken out of it by facing SVA and
now having a definitive list of things to complete (I have to say I was starting to get a little bit pi$$ed off with the whole thing)

if your using a v3 and have the same spec as me - 15 inch wheels, 3.38 diff i got through well with a calibration of -26.5%
Its frustrating isnt it though I wasted so much time on stuff that still failed(steering pad, clock surround, bumper bar with indicators, seat belt
mount surrounds etc) would have been better to get the car in sooner running, braking and moving properly then working on details that are really
needed.

Cheers Richard - thats pretty much what I was told to do.
Depending how much material is on the insert, I was thinking of having a recess lathed into it to retain some form of adjustability.
I'll probably just drill and tap it though because my idea is a bit idealistsic for a lazy tw@t like me to go through with

Well done Steve!
I found it a bit sad when I didn't pass first time (because I thought the car was OK).
But working through the list gave me great motivation, as I knew that each item that I sorted out meant I was one step closer to the open road!
Sorry I never got to call in pre-sva and have a look at the car. Work just got in the way!

Cheers Mike - as it happened the things I was worrying about the most were the parts he barely looked at (just ran his hand over all the edges quickly
and moved on from all that stuff).
I'll be fettling the steering, speedo and brakes so I can test them on a trackday between now and re-test

Mine was a fail at Hull yesterday but I'm not too bothered as I knew it would fail anyway. Most of the stuff was trim and edges which I just ran
out of time with. The brakes need bled again which I suspected and the emissions failed which was down to my Power Commander giving up the ghost and
running on base map I suspect. Couple of other little bits and pieces but nothing major.
At least I got in before SVA finished and I have a list to do. If I missed the test yesterday it would be IVA before I got another chance.
