Taxing online

Has anyone had any issues with trying to tax their car online at all?? Just tried doing mine now and got the following message....

SORRY

Unable to Use Service

Unfortunately, because of the tax class of the vehicle or recent changes to the vehicle record, you are currently unable to apply for a tax disc or declare SORN using this service.

You will need to apply for the tax disc or declare SORN at a licence-issuing Post Office® or DVLA Local Office (as applicable for the vehicle) using the reminder (Vehicle Licence Application/SORN Declaration) or the Registration Document/Certificate together with the Insurance Certificate or Cover Note, MOT Test Certificate/GVT Test Certificate (if applicable) and fee.

Strangely i never received the usual reminder either despite the V5 showing the correct current address!!!

I thought maybe the system is just busy???

I had it recently with a Jag I bought. I phoned the DVLA and they said it was because of a gap between the last time it was taxed and the present date.
Which is strange because a Suzuki bike I bought has years of a gap but the system will let me tax it online! as for the Jag again the system would not let me do a SORN online either.Work that out if you can.

Stupid system hey - i'm not happy at all!! Its currently taxed (for the next 2 1/2 hrs anyway) so there is no gap in the taxation. MOT is September this year and its insured so it cant be that.

I'm beginning to think that maybe the Post Office messed up and put me down for 12 months rather than 6 last time i did it with me not getting a reminder!! Either that or the DVLA have messed it up somehow (not that they EVER make mistakes of course!!)

I tried online again just, as well as tried the 24hr automated phone line last night. DVLA still hates me though it seems as i cant use either!!

I'll ring them after 8am now when they supposedly man the lines, but guess i am going to be queueing up at the Post Office with all the old dears at 9am. I really hope it isnt penison day!!!!

DVLA are a bunch of useless incompetent fools!!! Finally spoke to someone and all they can say is they will look into it and have took my telephone number so will call me back, but as its now the 1st I am not legally covered anyway under the 5 day grace period so its got to be the Post Office to drive the car today!! She said its likely due to the change of address done recently (6 months after they sent me my new V5)!!!!!!

Grrrrrrrr - April the 1st too!!!!
