first time pass Glasgow!!

Woohoo passed sva with me robin hood 2B! Very fair test with a bloke called Allan. Then stopped off at local dvla office on off chance and got the car inspected there and then!! I would have my reg already but the office is snowed under after holiday weekend but should be on road within 3 days

PS special thanks to stuart_g, the previous owner of the kit for his good work on the build and his help with pics for the sva man

Well done, yes Allan is a top bloke isn't he? Very thorough, which gives you confidence that you've done the job right, and very fair at the same time.

I have to say, I'm a bit jealous in that I had my test on April 3rd and even though the inspector (Kenny) was at the test centre, he wasn't allowed to do the inspection until my DVLA paperwork had been submitted to his office. Even though I had the paperwork with me he couldn't accept it or do the inspection. I managed to get my paperwork in to the Glasgow office on the 6th and an inspection organised for the 8th and Kenny duly arrived and checked the the numbers. I had hoped to get my registration done on the 9th but no joy despite driving from KIlmarnock to Glasgow to visit the office having failed to reach them by phone. With the holiday weekend I thought I might hear from them today but again no joy. Maybe tomorrow...

Do you happen to have a phone number which gets you through to the Glasgow office directly? The only number I have is one which gets you through to Swansea call centre and they then ask someone to call you back. This is what I did last week but I never heard back from anyone and ended up driving there. I don't really want to have to do the same again if I can help it.

Anyway, I hope that you have more luck getting registered than I have had so far. I expect the holiday weekend has caused the delay in my case so I'm sure you'll be fine.

Let me know how you get on and I'll do likewise.

Cheers,
Craig.

Thanks folks! i'm still high as a kite and will be for a while yet!!!

Craig, re the DVLA- i'm sure your registration will appear shortly, they did just seem exceptionally busy due to the public holidays. The inspector at Edinburgh was hopefull mine would be done fairly sharpish- i'm lucky i dont have to drive that far to harass them as its only 10 or so miles to the dvla office from my house- i'm never a great fan of phone calls as i'm sure 90 % of the time they forget about you the minute they hang up. Its a pity its a long drag for you to get to the office but hopefully you wont have to do it again

Hi again,

I phoned the DVLA today and spoke to a chap called Derek at the Glasgow office who said that I could pop in any time to pay for my tax disc and registration. Apparently my application was sitting waiting on proof of insurance. I don't know why this is the case as I have taken my insurance in twice now and have had it handed back to me each time but I don't care as long as I get my registration completed tomorrow!

Hopefully pop to Halfords for number plates afterwards and should be on the road at the weekend if not before!

Cheers,
Craig.

Thanks, I certainly shall. I don't know if I mentioned it but I had a blast down the A77 (legally) on the way home from the SVA test. I didn't fancy driving on the M77 or M8 or through city streets in an untried car but after the test when I had a bit more confidence that I had built a sound car I had a drive down the A77 after we got clear of the motorways.

Fan-bloody-tastic is all I can say!! What a rush - like nothing else I've driven except for a couple of outdoor racing go-karts I used to own. Can't wait to take my kids out (one at a time) for a spin. They have been fighting over who will be first ever since I started building the car... Need to get some helmets sorted first.

I hope you get yours through the DVLA quicker than me. Having said that, they've been okay, I'm just jealous that some folk have managed to get their cars registered same day as SVA...

Cheers,
Craig.

Woohoo i've just got my reg number from the Edinburgh DVLA office. I must say they are a cheery and efficient bunch!

I stopped in at halfords with a view to getting reg plates made. Was told it was £13.69- hmm ok fair enough a bit more expensive than the factors but hey ho you pays for convenience...

and then the man pointed out that was each, at which time i was very rude (oops) and exclaimed 'you're having a laugh' right to his face, turned heel and walked away.

Nearly £30 for 2 reg plates?? i can get a pair for £8 on ebay or at my local factors (which was shut by then)

Dick Turpin ain't got a look in!!!!!!!!!!!

Hi,
Great news about your registration and I got mine as well so double celebration!!

My story about Halfords is equally frustrating - after waiting 5 minutes for someone to become available to help me and then another 10 minutes discussing the various sizes and styles available and processing my paperwork, I was told that they don't stock the letter "Q"...

Apparently none of the Halfords branches stock the letter "Q" because it is only used for write-off's... Ah yes, of course it is, how silly of me!

Anyway, I ended up ordering online from here. and even with next day delivery by special delivery they are much the same price as Halfords and look to be much nicer. I opted for legal size plates with the Scottish flag on them (legal according to DVLA but not according to Halfords...) and I expect the quality to be better than what I would have got from Halfords. Will report when I receive them (hopefully tomorrow before 1pm...)

Cheers,
Craig.
