CAT Question
At what point do are you required to fit a cat to the car?
is it based on engine year of manufacture?

I had a K reg Jag that did not need a cat, Aug 93 sounds about the right.
However if you have an imported car or something on a Q plate it is not required as far as I know.

Remember that you need proof of engine age to confirm what test they do.

Isn't there something on the donor vin plate about it? Therefore if the donor engine matches the chassis plate?
Good question really because I've secured an engine from a car a mate's breaking so I won't really have any other parts of it

I think you have the wrong attitude, you can't tell the bloke that is testing you "tough" he will just fail you so who is
"tough" now.
Also IVA regulations are getting tighter than the SVA, these details will become more and more important to get right

No what I mean is if the government doesn't expect the car the engine came out of to have a cat how can they expect the exact same engine in a
different frame to need one?

They don't know the original source of the engine...it's down to you to prove it's manufacture date...

Spot on info.
Easily remembered too, 'N' reg is 'no' (ie before n reg is ok, n reg and after 'no'
