IVA or not?
Am i right in thinking that if a car has the chassis modified to take a different engine or IRS rather than live axle, it will need an IVA test?
How long can i resist the temptation to drop a V8 in?

Very grey area - what is radically modified.
Engine change should not be a problem but axle may be if you have modified the pick-up points on the 'chassis'.
With bikes to trikes it appears that, so long as you can just bolt on the original bike parts to convert the vehicle back to a bike, then this is not
classed as radically altered.
Hopefully something similar may apply to 4 wheel vehicles.
There are lots of MkI & MkII Escorts with coil spring 5 link rear ends rather than a pair of cart springs.....

personally I'd say you would be totally bonkers to involve the dvla in such things
I'm converting the Falcon to IRS at the back and as far as their concerned it’s always been like that. When it was involved in that big crash, I
had a 3ltr v6 in it though the log book said a 2ltr pinto as I wanted to see what it was like with it in before changing the docs. Though I had
told the insurance company (had to pay £35 extra )
Nothing was ever said about it by anyone
