MotaLeira Has a New 09 Registration!

Today after getting home at 5.30 am from a nightshift and getting up at 9am , the Motaleira was loaded on a low loader and taken to wimbledon vro.
I tarped it but no need, not a drop of rain after 9.30am !
At 11am I was told that the car had a new Reg!
The official paperwork will be posted to me as I have opted for a June 1st tax disc.
Plates ordered ready and I will be off work next week (except Tuesday) so blatting is already planned!

Congratulations nitram! Great build! You can be really proud of it!
(Just make sure that you do the breather modifications on your R1 engine before attempting any spirited driving and watch your oil levels...)

If all goes to plan (so far so good ) in June I plan a visit to newlands on 7th June, if I get the audience tickets for topgear, an outing 17th June and hopefully Newark 20-21st (have new tent for saturday night stay)

It's not the age of the engine that matters. Ours had 3000 in it, looked pristine and rodded itself in 20 miles...
The newer R1 engines generate so much crankcase pressure that they spit the oil out and eventually oil levels will become critical and the engine will fail.
I have talked to many racers now and listened to them. We have just made the modifications (see BEC section) this weekend.
if you want, I can send you all the info, pics, etc. that I have received from various sources. Then you can decide.
The only one thing that might be different in your case is that the engine is mounted as on the bike, whereas ours is at 90 degrees. Not sure that makes a difference...

Congrats Martin, you must be relieved to have got the new reg after all the expense you've gone to.
When should I expect a visit, or is my road just too grubby for you to bring such a pretty toy down!!!?

I can see that a normal position engine might affect it.
If the crankcase breather is clear (pipes not kinked) then the only issue is if oil gets drawn into the breather then back into the inlet manifold and locking the pistons. This can happen if there is the required overfill for the baffle plate mod.
All I think I will do is put a catch tank in between the crankcase breather and the inlet manifold to catch any surplus oil.
Also your orientation of the engine might be causing the oil to reach the breather pipe while cornering whereas mine will only occur in extreme acceleration.

i can't believe how quick you've done it only seems a few months since those side rails came back from being rolled

Result!

I had to wait 2 days for my tax to start (my choice) and that did my head in. Couldn't have waited for a week!

Will we get to see it at Newark? edit.. I should read the other post first...

I've got an 06 5VY and I've done almost 3000 miles in it including 3 track days. Only problem is a small amount (200ml) of oil up the breather and then only on the track at full tilt all day. This was burnt through the induction side first time on track, but I've now got a catch tank on it. The only other mod' I've got is the sump baffle and small over-fill.

6 years so far for me, with a bought chassis, and i'm barely past rolling chassis stage
