Headlight position
If I've read it right, the manual says the headlights have to be 400mm from the widest part of the car same as the indicators IIRC). Does it
mean the centre of the light or the outer edge?

400mm is not an instruction it is the maximum permitted distance from the widest part of your car and this can be your rear wheel arches.
The measurement is to the outermost edge of the lense.
I recommend that you get it inside of the lense.....

older diagrams showed only this measurement for the side lights not the idicators.

perhaps on older diagrams, but things change. IVA manual says indicators must be within 400mm of the sides of the vehicle
