one seat - SVA inspector
What's the likely outcome of me only fitting the drivers seat to the car and telling the SVA man the car is for track days only ? Just thought I
could get away with not having to mess around with edges etc on the passenger side.

I think the answer might be " If its for track days only you dont need an SVA Sir."

Joking apart you might be able to go through as a single seater but I dont know how that will affect you for its registration, and I bet they will
still want the dash etc sorting to the regs, because they know you will put the other seat in.

yeah of course I won't , might even attach a fire extinguisher where the passenger seat should be just to prove it !!!
and single seater... easy to amend the V5 at a later date

Make sure the fire extinguisher has all radiused edges

Or you could fit a second steering whhel on the passenger side then youd have no problems at all, and it gives your passenger a feeling of security,
not that it would do anything

Because if I crash I'm going to leap out of the drivers seat impale myself on the fire extinguisher on the passenger side then hurt myself on
the non radiused lower dash edge on the same side, or is it in case I "catch" a pedestrian by mistake ?

You could always panel in the passenger side with ally sheet making it temporarily a genuine one seater.

joking aside that's not such a bad idea, how about constructing it as a large storage box (read boot) ?. The top could be removable for access.

yeah exactly like a coffin, a nice auminium one. got to beat a dull wooden one, not so sure how the crematorium will cope though !!!!!

Job done. A bloke at the garage my mate works at took his fireblade engined car to Derby with only one seat years ago and they just checked what was
there. He said they never even mentioned it and he had no seat belt mounts on that side either.

so do you think they will still test for the dash projections on the passenger side if there is no seat ?. I rekon that you could avoid almost all of
the interior projection and edge testing by doing this !!!

Are you going to fit all your dials and switches to the passenger side? Sounds a bit impractical. They tested what was there so I assume they still
tested the dash area anyway. Sorry to wee on your chips gmtbh.

I only fitted a drivers seat for my SVA. However, discussing this with the SVA examiner he said he treats the car as a 2 seater if there are seat belt
mounting points in the passenger side.
He said I could either remove the belt mounts entirely or weld up the existing mounts so they were unusable.

lol. im going to have to make mine with a removable panel behind the seats to get to the various bolts, and to allow the inspector a view of the
gubbins.

JoelP, can't you see the seat belt mounts from the underside ? I am sure they will be able to check when they stick your car on the ramps.
He'll need a torch of course.
Has anyone had to take any photographic evidence of stuff they've done during their builds?
I meant specifically the steering column, seat belt lower and upper mounts etc ?

it would be ok if mine was book, but unfortunately the harness fillets are inside the cockpit and hidden under the seat, and the seats themselves bolt
to a rail inside the chassis, so bugger all is visable from the outside!
