Good Day - Bad Day
Good Day- Prior to this mornings SVA retest I took out my MK Indy for the first time to check the speedo before putting it on the trailer. Wow just
could not stop smiling, how brilliant's that. Got to the SVA centre at Gillingham, great guy went through my failure list all OK now including
wiring, fuel system, noise level and various sharp items etc.
So just the emissions to test and you have got yourself a pass. Bad day, the readings are way out. He showed me the reading, means little to me, on
the first test it read L-0.705, Co evo1-9.04, Co evo2- 8.9, 02 evo1-0.06 & HC 2140 Second test the readings at higher revs were L-0.704, Co
evo1-10.44, Co evo2- 8.3, 02 evo1-0.04 & HC 893. He said he requires the readings to be Co -0.3% or less, HC -200ppm, Lambda -0.97 to 1.03 all at
2500 - 3000 rpm. And the CO 0.5% at idle. I showed these figures to a mate who owns his own bike shop and race team and his first reaction was
it's mission impossible. Any ideas how I can get over this please it's a 95' RRS 843cc Blade engine on carbs.

Did your mate realise it only has to be that low for the actual test?
Id either lean it right out for the test, or use a power commander with an sva map on it

I had a similar problem on my R1 (carbs).
Firts time out it was just the lambda that was out (just).
After a good cleaning of the carbs and fiting a borrowed airbox rather than my foam filter, the lambda was OK but the CO and HC's were
WAAAAAAAAAY out.
Took the airbox off and dialled down the air/fuel screws on each carb quarter turn at a time until the numbers stabalized in the right place.
Got the tick in the box and turned the carbs back to the right place before I even put it on the trailer to leave the VOSA centre....

can you take it into a bike workshop and get them to tweak it using their equipment.
I would suggest DHR at Whitfield

Firstly, do you have a letter from Honda confirming the exact date of your engine? If it's a pre 1st August 1995 engine, the emissions
limits are considerably lower;
3.5% CO
1200 ppm HC

Did you try loosening off the seals between the carbs and the manifold?
Too introduce some air to lean it off?
Think Roger suggested that one before?

My blade is pre 95, all i had to do was show the nice VOSA chap the haynes manual with the engine code range that match mine for the year.

Showing the Haynes manual to the inspector is OK (at some SVA centres) provided the engine year is pre 95. The problem arises when you have a
'95 engine and the inspector will want some proof that it's pre 1st August.
