SVA steering wheel
Whats best here ?
I have long since ditched the donor wheel (couldn't stand the sight of the ugly sierra wheel !) and i have bought and fitted a SVA approved
moutney wheel and boss from Europa spares. They say its SVA ok as it has the correct radius on the spokes.
Does this sound right? have people failed because of this ? or have most stuck with the ugly thing till the SVA was over and then ritually burned it
?

I might be wrong but I would guess you need a padded bit to go over the centre of the wheel for the SVA, I think you can get one that fits from
Mountney.
As already mentioned, nice interior!

I have a mountney wheel like that (but finished in black not chrome) and I'm sticking with my sierra wheel until I pass the SVA - then it will
be the first thing to get changed. I'm not convinced those metal edges will pass the SVA, so I'm playing it safe.

According to my SVA manual the following applies:
1) The steering wheel surface directed towards the driver, which can be contacted by a 165mm dia sphere should have no edges with a radius of less
than 2.5mm.
2) Should not have rim supports manufactured from plate containing holes.
3) Must offer a degree of protection to the driver by absorbing energy from a driver-wheel impact. This is judged by whether it is type approved or
displays similar characteristics to one that is.
i.e. Quote: The component must provide protection by controlling the rate of deceleration of the impactor on impact (for example by use of
compressible material or deformation).
Following the test there must not be any sharp or rough edges on the component likely to increase the danger or severity of injury to the driver.
I think that means it needs to be type approved, or padded and have a collapsible boss, even if the radii are OK.
That'll be why many use the donor wheel.

Firstly, thanks for the kind words about the interior !
I think i'll go with your advice and make up some form of pad to go over the centre of the wheel.
Problem is , have i got any of that Vinyl left over

I agree lurverly job.....but do you have the same problem as me with instrument bezels ?...See the thread in "Interior & Seating"
titled 'Round Speedo for a Fiver ' or are your clocks SVA friendly ?

I hope they are sva friendly.
They do have a nice ally round bezel on them already. You may be able to see it better in my archive pic.
