altering a tax exempt car
I have been looking for a new project and come across a couple of tax exempt kit cars for sale.
Due to them not being in a very good state of repair, i was thinking of kinda re-furbishing them.
Firstly major alterataion to suspension and chasis.
Then fitting a bike engine.
As these cars are already registered as kit cars, and on an age related tax exempt number, can i do this legally and still keep the 'NOT HAVING
TO PAY ROAD TAX' thing

A few suspension mods and/or body restoration should be OK. Changing front and rear suspension set up/type and new body I suspect would be treated as
a new build from donor vehicle, bit like turning a escort into a locost. Beware and seek advice as people do get caught trying to fiddle the system
(not suggesting that is what you are trying!), see stuff on Duttons turning into LSIS and avoiding SVA.

Beware that the cars are correctly registered -- frequently the details were never changed from Ford Cortina to Spartan or Dutton or Ford special or
whatever.
As for things like suspension type this was never recorded anywhere -- only the body type, number of seats, colour engine and chassis numbers,
engine capcity and fuel type.

That's kinda what i thought.
Was intending keeping same dimensions and body, so will look the same.
And as foe avoiding SVA and not having to pay road tax, Now there's an idea !
