IVA and Fog Lamps

I'm planning my rear lights at the moment, I think i can get away with having two concentricclusters at each side, and nothing in the middle if I do it like this:

N/S - 1
Indicator
reflector

N/S - 2
Stop/Tail
Reverse

O/S - 1
Indicator
Reflector

O/S -2
Stop/Tail
Fog

I think this meets the criteria for rear lighting (Save number plate illumination) because:

Section 20, Note 2:

Note 2: Rear Fog Lamp separation distance must be measured between the “illuminating surface” of each lamp. “Illuminating Surface” should be taken to be the area of the
“reflector” to the rear of the bulbs.

Where lamps are mounted in a common housing and are “E” marked, the separation criteria should be assumed to be met.

I'm making the assumption that a common housing means part of the same assembly (Even though these are two seperate components joined together, both of which are e/f marked.)

Alternatively fog/brake light must be 100mm apart (distance between edge of illuminated surface) which i could do by spacing the lights apart enough and swapping reflectors/stop/tail around. (Section 28, table 1)

The reverse light must simply be white and facing rearwards so can be on the near side. (Section 29, table 1)

Have I interpreted this correctly?

The lamps you refer to are not in a 'common housing' as regards the rules.

In such a setup the lamps would still need to be 100mm apart it's just that Mr IVA doesn't need to get his tape measure out as it will have been checked when the lamp unit was approved.

You will need to put the fog and stop/tail in separate clusters and ensure the separation is correct. The reason for this is so that the fog light, when illuminated, does not mask the brake light.

Thanks for clarifying, makes sense when you put it like that.
