my 3 years is up - MOT tips
Well that seemed to fly by!! My 3 years are up and my mk is booked in for friday morning. I'm just after some general tips and advice for
MOT'ing a kit car. I'll be staying with the car during the MOT but anything else i should be aware of (apart from the weather)?? Any
horror stories!!?
thanks

Unless the tester is familiar with kit cars, be prepared to help them... The first time I took my TVR in for an MOT they had a lot to learn....
opening the bonnet was the start...
Provided nothing major has changed since SVA... make sure everything works and you will be fine

When I had my old MK tested (at a place very familiar with bikes - which I hoped might help) the testing assistant refused to get in the car so I had
to do it all...

My local MOT guy was really helpful but I didn't want anyone to drive my car (or even move it around) as they are all short arses and my seat is
designed for six footers and not adjustable.
I offered to drive it onto the ramp and do all of the switch flicking, wheel wobbling and brake pressing. My car would not fit on the brake tester as
it was far too low .... so they didn't get tested apart from a visual inspection underneath.
My car failed on emissions and unless your car has had a GOOD tune then be prepared for some tweaking of your map if that's within your
capability. I've now got an 'MOT map' which drives like shite but passes the emissions test. It runs so weak that it starts to
overheat at the required 2500rpm!
Cheers,
Raz
