Failed in Exeter

Failed the sva
but was quite happy with why on some things !
Steering wheel :sva man said leave the serria one on. in the test said it was too big and could hinder proper control of the car!!!

Exhaust : lolocost one front edge of the box edges not greater than 2.5mm (just)

Mirrors: too small my fault for reading the rules wrong 40x80 should read 40x80 with a 70mm in the middle somewhere.

Self centreing :total lack of.. toed out loads (looked silly)still nothing.

Lights: needed ajusting and centreing.

Brake warning light : no reconised symbol on lamp.

One battery cable not tied for 300 mm and fuel filter not fixed down

And some sharp edges on the top and bottom of the shocks at the front.

Not much really done most of it just got to phone for retest and pay £30 cash!!!
Apart from that he said it looked good

Bad luck with the fail, not sure what you can do/say about the steering wheel item, can't understand why everybody else passes with it but not you , maybe a question for people higher up in the VRO ?

Bad luck. But at least there is nothing terminal, and you have a list to work through. All the best for the retest.

I'm sure I've got one, just don't know where I've put it

so what has that to do with you, you may fit under the wheel no problem.

Bad luck but does'nt seem much to do to get it sorted , me and Billy were only in there yesterday talking to the kit tester about various sva bits and bobs (seemed like a nice enough bloke)

Don't forget to recheck the radius around the new smaller wheel, 127 mm rings a bell, just a thought seeing as you've reduced the size of steering wheel and buttons and switches might now be outside the safe zone

anyone know if softer or harder pressures in tyres make the self centreing better or worse .I am running 20psi at the moment and i get a bit of self centreing but unable to drive too much due to pc plod living 5 doors down

Hi Barrie.
lowering the tyre pressure aids self centering, about 16psi.

Good luck with the retest.

mentioned this before and probably won't be able to, but if there are any spacers (washers?) either side of your upper and lower wishbone bushes to fit them between the brackets then make sure that the washers on the top wishbones are in front of the bushes and those on the bottom are behind the bushes. (to maximise castor angle) Also check the wishbones are the right way up (silly but best to check!)

Bob
is that the lights on the rear of the car
if so all they checked on mine were that they were working.
if its the one on the dashboard yes you need the symbol.
good luck for yours.
Barrie

It s the symbol that was one of my fail points its not in the book BUT IT IS IN A SUPPLEMENT ON THE SVA MANS DESK.
yes i missed that one as well they get supplements all the time and like showing you when you point it out that its not in the book!!
All i did was draw the symbol out quite big photocopy it down small and varnish it to my light .looks good lets hope mr sva thinks so

Bob looked up your car and they are simalar but are your rear belt bolts high enough (dont want to scare you but mr sva got this funny tool out and i was only 1/2" over .)
thanks i,ll let you know how i get on tomorrow

barrie,

dont worry you havent scared me..... well ive measured it based on 450mm from the referance point so unless the 450mm has been increased in those dam suppliments then i reckon i should be fine....fingers crossed!! the seats you see in the photo are only SVA tempoary and are only 3/4in thick, i have made fibre glass seats moulded to me, you could say they fit like a glove!! but are borderline for the SVA and i havent got them covered yet either!

but if you spot anything elso please shout!!

as for your light symbol, what you had done is simmilar to my idea but was goining to cut it out of vinyl left over from my silver stripes! either way so long as it passes!!!!! if it does (as im sure it will!!) your going to have a dam good weekend!!!!

take it easy mate

bob
