Question regarding wheel thread length
Does any one have any idea how much thread should be available for the wheel nuts to fit on. I don't seem to have that much (20mm?) with my new
wheels and am wondering whether or not to fit longer studs.

I'm sure someone more knowledgeable will be along in a moment, but I have always been told that any bolt/stud should always have at least 3
threads showing through the nut.
(Unless they are closed wheel nuts of course )

You need to have about a thread & 1/2 showing once the Wheel and nut is on unless the nut is closed at the end.... However a closed nut may not be
allow be allowed at SVA/IVA (can;t remember that one)
Scot's do it better in Kilts.

Depending on thread pitch, you want the nut to cover at least the dia of the stud, then the stud will fail not the thread.
All in theory though.

1 1/2 to 2 threads must protrude from the nut.

Thanks all for the info. I too have closed end wheel nuts which passed SVA in 2005. I'll measure up the exposed thread this morning.
