Race car on trade plates is it allowed ??
Daft question my GSXR race car is good enough to be SVD'd to be honest except for having no lights other than stop lights...
Now could i drive it on the road for a test drive on trade plates in the daylight obviously on trade plates legally ??
or not ??
its not road registered like or sva'd just a thought..

For a car to be on the road it needs to be registered, taxed, MOT'ed and insured.
Trade plates only really cover you for tax and insurance (a bit of a generalisation), so short answer is... no

Mmmm bummer just wanted to do a few miles in it lol... set a few things up and stuff....
Thought that would be the case but thought i would ask still....

Not sure where you are but somewhere like Bruntingthorpe is the cheapest option. Somthing like £20-£25 Ph. Just of junction ( err 18 i think ) of the
M1

Ask Bi22le what its like to drive..... 
You could try and get a daytime use MOT with no lights and only indicators? I dknt know if they still do this, but i know people that have done it
with track bikes....

That's not entirely true, when I worked on the Ford Cargo truck launch we were driving (road testing) new Cargo chassis cabs which were unbodied
& unregistered - they were brand new vehicles, but basically a bare chasis with the only bodied part being the truck cab - this use of trade
plates was certainly legal then(about 30 years ago), don't know if anything has changed with intro of SVA/IVA. One of the original purposes of
trade plates was to allow road testing of prototype vehicles. I'd say it's worth a phone call to DVLA/Vosa - it may well depend on exactly
what you describe your vehicle as ie prototype rather than unfinished

Ford don't do IVA, that might well be the difference. Also you're only supposed to use trade plates for business purposes so even if it is
technically legal how are you going to explain the use of an unregistered car for work?

Didnt they stop doing daytime MOT's a couple of years back?

Cheers chaps, i was never going to use the car on a regular basis on trade plates it was just a one off rest drive round the country lanes to do a few
bits of set up etc..
Ive read the DVLA bumph and they still aloow vehicle testing subject to it being a prototype and development etc..
You still can drive a car to the testing station with no mot the plates then cover the tax insurance covers the insurance obviously..
I assumed that the registration side of it was temporarilly covered by the plate number of the trade plates see.. which it does under certain
circumstances..
still bloomin grey area though reading it..
