SORN?

Got this off the net somewhere..

Statutory Off Road Notification (SORN) was introduced on 31 January 1998 and affects vehicles licensed on, or after that date.

Now, I have applied for the V5 for my Jago that took 9 weeks to arrive, at the same time I sent the V890 along with the V5 application. Thats was the beginning of June.

I have received no conformation of sorn and have followed it up with an online sorn application.

The last time this vehicle was taxed was 1992 of which I have the disc.

Does this mean, bearing in mind the statement above, I do not need sorn for my pile of scrap?

It does seem that all government departments have a backlog of paperwork ( i think this is deliberate personally) so i would probably wait a bit longer before making a final decision.

You should get a confirmation of SORN.

Delay is probably because of all three papers going in at once, and their systems not allowing / promoting common sense of the intelligent individuals that work for DVLA.

I would suggest you do everything correctly and keep records. Its easier to prove things if you have them. All you need is a Jobsworth to start asking questions and your time will be made a complete missory. Believe me, I have first hand experience when I ws going through the registration process for my Locost and have the scars to prove it.

If your car was last taxed prior to the introduction of SORN then you do not need to SORN the vehicle.
Certainly this was the case when I bought my Austin 7 - I filled in a SORN declaration when I applied for the log book - DVLA returned the SORN application stating that it was not required as the vehicle had not been taxed when SORN was introduced.
