V5c's have changed colour to RED

Presumably as a result of the stolen ones, though they've made up some fairly spurious reasons to explain why they made the change.

"The new V5C will make it clear that it is not proof of ownership."

Well then what will?

Whatever always has (receipt, invoice) - the V5 has never proved ownership

How many people buy £500 cars for cash with no receipt? Loads.

I wouldn't buy a car without getting a receipt even if it was only 50p.

If paying cash it's even more crucial to get a receipt. If you pay by cheque or credit card there will be a paper trail, but if you pay cash you have no evidence at all.

Look in section 5 of your existing V5C, it clearly states that the registered keeper is not necessarily the owner.

Just a nother change using out tax money. I thought Cameroon was stopping wastage like this? Or, as more likely DVLA are a law unto themselves.

Is red ink really that much more expensive than green?

Probably not, but they will have employed some high flying graphic design consultant to choose the colour for them and then had to shred the pile of Green ones already printed.

Had to be changed given 50,000 had been stolen. You'd hope they'd have run down the old ones first.

The decision, any design costs, and probably the first print runs will have been done prior to the elections. Stuff really does take that long in govt.

More accurately 90% of laws are around ownership of 'stuff'. Having something in your hand means nothing to a court - for obvious reasons.
