1998 zx9r engine - is a Cat required ?

Hi guys and gals,

Im a the point where i need to source a exhaust back box for my haynes zx9r project. The engine is from a 1998 zx9r and originally did not have a CAT. Im wondering whether for IVA a will i get away with the original bike back box or do i need to go down the expensive route of purchasing a cat/back box combo ?

Many Thanks Dan

you will deffenately need a cat, any engine built after Aug 95 will req one regardless of what vehicle it came from.

A pint for the gent and a white wine/fruit based drink for the lady. Those are the rules

I think it did have a cat. It is integral to the exhaust silencer. I have the same engine and I got one off ebay and coupled it with an R1 exhaust which also has a cat in.

Just to confuse the topic further, I have a 98c engine. and I do not have a cat - or if I do, it is very very very very small.

on a Q plate and just passed its MOT.
