I had this problem post SVA when I chained to a MNR reverse box.

I think that the Dash switch can not be used on the assumtion that you must not have a white light on when driving forwards.

Not sure if reverse is compulsory.

I fixed a Microswitch on me Reverse lever.

The easiest option is to fit a proper engine and box!!

Bike engines in bikes....

YAWN!

I think you're allowed a dash switch, but it must have a tell-tale light on the dash so you know it's on. I'd use a pretty big tell-tale rather than a tiny LED just so you don't forget it.

you could just put a micro switch on the lever so that when its in reverse the switch makes and turns on the light

Just What I have done with the MNR reverse in my Indy.

You couldn't pwn your way out of a wet paper bag, with "PWN ME!!" written on it, from the "pwned take-away" which originally contained one portion of chicken tikka pwnsala and the obligatory free pwnpadom.
