4 Speed conversion to 5 Speed - HELP!
Hi guys,
I am about to take out my 2.0l Pinto with the seirra 4 speed box on her and replace the box with a 5 speed type 9.
This is the sam bell house??
I have been told that the 5 speed might be longer than the 4 speed box..... true??
If so is this conversion possible? I guess a nudge forward on the engine is the best way....?
Does anyone know the length of their type 9 4 speed or 5 speed, of the diff between them??
Thanks!!

If I recall correctly, the type 9 is about 1" or 1.5" longer - there's an extra layer on the output side that holds the 5th gear.
Take further advice though...

Robin Hood S7, you need to cut back the tunnel floor as the gearbox mount on the 5 speed is also further back.
You can't take the box back to much as the box will hit the tunnel sides under power, moving the engine forward may mean moving the towers or
making new mounts.
For advise from people that have done these mods I recomend the Robin Hood owners club web site, for this exact modification they are the
experts.Robin Hood owners

Thanks for that info. I will have a look on their site also.
I can make new engine mounts easily enough, so might need to do that.
Thanks again.
