c20xe cooling
Hi all, can you advise on the current setup I have... changed it today to the following because it was overheated and boiling in the expansion
tank..
Water pump to bottom of rad
Thermostat to top of rad
Small outlet top of rad to a bleed valve.
rear of cylinder head blocked
Header tank with a "T" connected to the thermostat / top rad hose.
My setup can be seen in my pics under cooling..
Thanks
Jools

Hi
The more usual way would be..
Water pump too Rad bottom ( already OK )
Thermostat too Rad top ( already OK )
Header tank bottom T'd into the RAD bottom - water pump
Small hose Rad top to small inlet header tank top
That will give a fully circulating system pushing allair into the header tank top.
Cheers Matt

thats almost what i have on my x20xev, but as Matt said, bottom of header tank to bottom radiator hose, and i've got the radiator and thermostat
connections both going to the header tank.

don't write OT on a new thread title, you're creating the topic, everything you write is very much ON topic!

thats guys, does the header tank need an overflow or do I just rely on the pressure cap??

I agree with procomp, BUT, on mine I actually have a combined swirl pot and header tank built into the top hose, with no ill effect at all.
What do you have to maintain coolant flow when the stat is shut? You need some flow from the inlet manifold side of the cylinder head at the front,
certainly you need a bleed connnection from the small port at the top on the inlet manifold/head face to the top of the header tank, otherwise you
will get airlocks in the head, they can't get out through the stat cos its a bit lower down.
