You could, but... there's always a but... DVLA will need a letter from a garage to say they've either installed the engine, or have inspected the engine, in the Sierra that the V5 relates to.

Also you will not get the same registration from the Sierra

If you successfully get an age related plate you will be issued with just that. For Example my donor was H35 FTL, I ended up with H 123 ABC for example.

They caught on to this long ago, I suspect also the bloke who does the test on your finished creation will know the difference between a Pinto and Fireblade engine.

Best bet if you dont fancy jumping through the hoops required with a new build is buy something already registered and on the road.

Don't quite see why you would want / feel the need to do this? I used a Sierra as my donor for the main parts and put a Vauxhall redtop in it. There was no problem getting it IVAd / registered - granted, I had a photocopy of the V5 the engine came from (mainly to prove the year for the emissions) and a reciept for the engine. I had no problem getting it 'K' registered.

Steve you must have had enough points in the system to get an age related plate. I think it was two major components such as gearbox, brakes, differential, Engine etc.

A lot depends on the DVLA inspection. On mine at Kirham they checked all numbers against donor V5 and had a count up iof what they considered to be 'age' related.

It could also depend on what you try for!
