Get your new trailer done before End July'ish 2012
Reading as one does the VOSA/DVLA web sites every now and then.
I thought I would post a reminder to anyone considering a new build of a trailer for kit cars, to get one built before the end July 2012.
Hope I have the dates correct as I find the information very confusing so perhaps somebody can review this and let me know if correct.
IVA information guide It has been updated in November 2011.
The dates seem to suggest requirement are:
Light & heavy trailers - O1, O2, O3 & O4
Incomplete & complete - O1 - O4 29th October 2012*
Completed - O1 - O4 29th October 2013*
Special purpose trailers 29th October 2014*
* Unless the vehicle was built more than 3 months before the implementation dates above.
I also tend to think from later in the document car trailers will be class O2 from 0.75 tonne to 3.5 tonne. But can not determine if the above means
O1 to O4 inclusive or just O1 and O4?
Anyway a point for debate or just a heads up to any builders. How it affects changing a caravan chassis to car trailer is anyone’s guess.

Why do I have to make the tools to finish the job? More time then money.

How will they enforce that then? there is no registration system for trailers and no dvla records of them so surely if you build one you just stamp a
date of manufacture preceding the new rules.
