things like the s200 will bankrupt you if /when they go wrong and have prob been thrashed to death before,TR6,s look nice but having driven
several.....i would rather walk and they rust,BMW z,s will get you a bad name, the MX5 is not outstanding in any way but more like a safe ,middle of
the road bet
who cares who wins
pass the pork pies

There's a HUGE choice at that kind of price and it depends a huge amount on what you want from it, ie jump in and drive and it rarely breaks
down - or more exotic/interesting but needs a fair amount of love and care ie an 'enthusiasts' car.
I'd imagine you could get a M series Z3 for that if kind of money you want jump in and drive - a mate of mines got one and it's about the
only BMW I've enjoyed driving- on the other hand my brother in law has a TVR Griffith and I didn't enjoy driving that at all, plus it was
reliable for about 30 minutes at a time, been sat in his garage for about 5 years in a broken state because he couldn't be bothered fixing
it.....again

Fair points. I think you need to be a little more specific.
Do you want something to impress the opposite sex? something to stick on track, or a cool cruising-on-a-hot-summer-evening type of thing?
The first is the hardest to achieve

I'd still go for an MX5 with up to half of that budget, then use the rest making it go fast enough for your needs.

Check insurance on an s2000 before jumping in, they can be hideously expensive to insure.
I love our Z3 and you will get a good 2.8 for that money, you won't get a Z3m though at that price.

2.8 Z3 BMW or Mazda MX5
S2000 at that money might end up being a money pit ?
Chimera does sound nice though

That'd buy a decent s2000, ropey ones seem to start at about 3k.

S1 Elise seems to be gathering momenum as a modern classic now and prices are creeping up.
Having had an S1 and S2, I can see why - the later cars have been softened up for the masses, with added airbags, electric windows, aircon etc etc.
S1's are more pure to the Lotus values. £8-9k for one worth having these days.

Are you sure about that? They certainly are no where near as good to drive.

No, not sure - not driven/been in either. Prefer to buy a nice B GT to be honest. Saying that, having seen how cheap RX8's are from a recent
other thread and having been in a friends, I'd be tempted to go down that road irrespective of oil/fuel consumption/reliability issues. Hmm, B
GT with RX8 mechs
