engine change in robinhood
Hi everybody,
I want to buy an early 80s robinhood and i would like to change to a modern engine. How do i go about registering the car please as after i want to
import it to france
if anyone can help?

He general principle is to change the engine, inform DVLA of the new engine number and the new engine size, when new V5 comes through, export.

yeah, i only really wanted to know about registering the engine change , as im not sure how, i will sort out export after

As Snapper has said,
Just change the engine, then inform the DVLA of new engine number & new CC size , there is a section on the V5 log book that you fill in &
send away, await new log book with new details then export as you wish

ok, that sounds easy enough,
do you have to have a reciept with the engine or something?
i can keep my age related plate then?

I,m not sure if a receipt is needed but it wouldn,t do any harm to have one
I have read that you "might " be required to have the new installation checked by a garage to ensure its done correctly etc or to ensure
that the engine isn,t stolen etc but I personally have never been asked to provide this information, in all honesty I think the DVLA are only really
interested if there is an increase in engine size as it may then go up in the Vehicle Excise Duty band that you pay,
An age related plate won,t be affected by an engine change , the identity of the car/chassis is the same .
Hope that makes sense ( it did in my head when typing it )

The DVLA are currently requiring written confirmation of the engine change including the new capacity. they have been asking for documentary evidence
from the engine supplier/garage that fitted it.

If you change it your self take lots and lots of photos when swoping engines
+ receipt for the new engine

I just asked a friendly mot tester to check the engine number/size and write down that he confirmed it on headed paper, worked ok last June.

You can't import any kit 'legally' into France until it is 30 years old, then it becomes a 'classic'.
Been trying with mine and getting nowhere!!
