front mudguards

iv had to trim part of the sides off mine so that they fit over the tyre and now when i look down over the top of the mudguard i can see some of the top part of the side wall of the tyre ,the tyres are 205,50,15's on 7 inch wide rims , that is the problem why they dont fit inside the mudguards.how much of the tread and tyre does the mudguard have to cover width ways for the sva.
cheers
moggy

I'm sure it is too...

From the birds-eye view no tyre or wheel should be protruding from the face.

The leading edge of the guard should be at least in line vertically with the wheel rim, preferably in front of it.
