Front indicators
Hi Guys,
ANyone know what the current standing of front indicators on top of the cycle wings is?
Sure i read something somewhen about it being a no no for IVA....
Annoyingly i've got a one piece bonnet and nosecone so not that straightforward doing the usual stalk indicators....
Cheers,
ANdy

From the regs there's no maximum limit so all the way to the edge of the car is fine, the limits for you will be minimum above ground 350mm
The max height is higher than your car at 1.5M

its not so much about distances in this case, but with angles of visibility. if you turn the wheels full lock to the left, but are indication right
(unlikely, but it could happen), can it be seen by all the required angles?
look below, there's a link to the IVA manual, its all there.
not sure why the one piece nose and bonnet causes problems? is it maybe just removable, and not hinged? so if you remove it then the wiring gets in
the way? perhaps a multi plug type thing just under the edge of the bonnet is needed? or consider hinging the whole front end?

don't write OT on a new thread title, you're creating the topic, everything you write is very much ON topic!

Yeh it was in respect to the fact the wheels were moving but i wasn't sure why.
But yes the angles of visibility does explain it! I'll have to double check with them taped on...
As for the bonnet, yes it was because of the wiring that i don't want to mount it there. I had thought of multi-plugs but would just be a pain
in the ass.... as for hinging the bonnet, again, pain in the ass and i'd like it to be removable.
i'll have a play with arch tops i think...!

Whilst its another 'interpretation' thing- ie some pass with it some dont. I believe (apart from angles mentioned already) the key wording
is this:
All lamps and reflectors fitted to the vehicle must be fixed and not move by swivelling, deflecting or otherwise while the vehicle is in motion,
except for:
any lamp or reflector which by design can be deflected to the side with the movement of the front wheel or wheels of the vehicle when turned for the
purpose of steering the vehicle
a headlamp for adjustment or dipping of the beam
a headlamp which can be retracted or concealed
a work lamp, used to illuminate a working area or the scene of an accident, breakdown or road works in the vicinity of the vehicle to which it is
fitted.
The argument being should a indicator be 'designed' to move. IMO, no it shouldnt. Others may feel its on a moveable object, that is
'designed' to be moved so therefore as long as its functions within the rest of the regs, its ok.

Your next option to consider is bracketry from the fixed part off the car either under the front nose as a fixing point or from the side
Painting these supports Matt black will make the fixings near invisible and better IMHO than sticking indicators to cycle wings

What about under the headlights as per the Caterham style?

Well actually i have a kind of area under the headlights as standard on the striker.
I'm just a bit concerned about the angles of visibility required if i mount there....
Might be an option though, may just need some kind of weird stalk to bring them out closer to the front of the car..
