car tax disc

I bought a nice low mileage gem at auction today, 12 month mot and I have got it insured ready to collect tomorrow here in lies the problem, the tax disc wasn't transfered with the vehicle, the owner I presume intends to cash it in I checked with DVLA web site and the Vehicle Tax status shows up as not due until June

Date of Liability 01 06 2013
Date of First Registration 21 12 2004
Year of Manufacture 2004
Cylinder Capacity (cc) 1796cc
CO2 Emissions 184g/Km
Fuel Type PETROL
Export Marker N
Vehicle Status Licence Not Due
Vehicle Colour BLUE
Vehicle Type Approval M1
Vehicle Excise Duty rate for vehicle
6 Months Rate £118.25
12 Months Rate £215.00

While this is quite good news for getting the car home
Obviously I am going to try and contact the seller to try and do a deal on the disc but if that dosen't work I may find find myself in the position of trying to tax a vehicle that is already taxed. So question the question can a vehicle be taxed twice ?

You can still be fined for not displaying a current road fund license and DVLA will not mind if you pay twice for the same vehicle. If the previous owner is cashing the disc in he will only get any full months remaining so may not be in a hurry to send it or may already have sent it and not registered on the system till next month.

yours, Pete

I went into the RSPCA office the other day. It was so small you could hardly swing a cat in there.

Yes, it can be taxed twice.

One time I taxed mine a bit early and they gave me the wrong disk (a month early).
Never managed to get the money back from the DVLA despite a couple of letters and a phone call (still annoying)

Personally, depending on distance i would get it home then tax it anyway.
