Chassis Number Position
Hi Guys,
Well i know the chassis number needs to be stamped on the offside of the car, but are there any specific requirements on top of this in terms of which
beam or on top or side etc?
Regards,
Andy

Clearly visible seems to be the order of the day.
Mine is on the top rail adj to the pedal box.

Mine is here, which is factory engraved by RAW.
I painted the bare metal white to stop it rusting and so its easy for inspector to see.

Stamped mine into a piece of 3mm steel and tacked it onto the cross brace in the engine bay (bulkhead to top side rail).
It looks like the Midget is winning at the moment......

Just be careful if you choose this method, if you just tack on a plate some inspectors view this as non permanent, If you do want to weld a plate on I
would say seam weld it on.
Me personally I engraved mine on the lower chassis rail on the off side then brushed a bit of laquer over it.

The only reason I did it that way was because I didn't want to risk bending the chassis member. I didn't have the issue with the IVA but
then there may be some that frown on it
It looks like the Midget is winning at the moment......

Hi
We had the devils own job trying to stamp the VIN
on the chassis , kept denting the box section & was not clearly visible.
so I contacted VOSA their reply was to stamp it on a piece of steel plate
& weld it all the way round to the chassis
Drivers side near the bulkhead, that it may be seen easily.
Another advantage of this method is if you make a mistake
Its easily rectified.
Good luck
René
Steel or stamps, Ben & I are not far away
UTU if you need.

I had mine engraved on a flat piece, then cut out the top rail and welded it in. Looks like it was engraved directly to the chassis.

Do DVLA specify a stamp size?

stamped mine on a piece of flat bar and welded it on to the bottom chassis rail.
