How close should a telltale be to a control?

IVA manual says telltales should be on or as close to the control so as not to cause confusion.

I am looking at using a toggle switch (on/off/on) for indicators and mounting it on the tunnel behind the gear shift and then having the double arrow telltale on the bottom of the dash, in front of the gearshift.

Would this be too far apart? Should I instead mount the telltale on the tunnel just behind the switch?

Cheers

i would just label both switch and indicator, can't get much clearer than that. you can always remove them post iva to tidy it up.
