Steering Rods and welding
For the steering arm of a landrover can you extend them by cutting it and then welding a thick walled tube over the top of the original rod? I’m
talking MOT rather than IVA. Or am I going to have to get a new rod made from scratch? Unfortunately machining prices up here are expensive.
Thanks

I believe even for MOT steering rods cannot be welded. Comparing it to a steering column, if a column breaks then the car will (usually) self centre
and carry on straight. A broken steering rod is going to do all sorts of weirdness to the direction of a vehicle.
Normal process is for a screw on extender, something like Escort Mk2 Steering Track Rod / Tie Rod Extender +50mm Extensions /
M14 although you'll have to find one to fit your situation.
