IVA advise on radical alteration
Hi all, I posted this in another section
http://www.locostbuilders.co.uk/forum/7/viewthread.php?tid=189662
But after no informative replies thought I'd try here.
I have a xykd buggy which I am putting a cbr600 engine in, as well as having the chassis and design re-engineered to make a better buggy, but I have
some questions regarding the build..
Am I limited on how far out I can send the wheels or are they ok to pertrude as long as they are covered by mud flaps?
As for the exhaust positioning can I put it sideways on the rear below the number plate?
Please help

Your best place to start would be to download a copy of the IVA manual and read through it. There are very specific rules and regulations in the
manual that cover everythign from construction to emissions to lights to wheel guards to sharp edge protection etc etc. The manual is very good and
explains everything in bullet points
All the answers are in the manual but as a starter :-
Must prove engine age for emissions
Wheel guards, bumpers, bodywork etc will all be subject to exterior projection rules
There are rules on wheel coverings
Must have reverse, electric ok
No need for windscreen, if you do must have demister, wash and wipers
Rules on lights are very specific and the manual says what is mandatory and optional

Excellent, thank you for the advise..
I'll take another look at the manual once I get home from work.
Is there anywhere I can go for a mock IVA (South Yorkshire area)? Or is it pointless with the retest only been £90?

There will be people near you who will have recently passed IVA. Put your location (Town?city?village?) in your profile.
Someone near you would cast an eye over it,I'm sure.

Or post up loads of photos on here or into your photo archive and ask for peoples advice. Many people have put up pictures with the topic
"finished and ready for IVA" and there will almost always be someone who spots something you may have missed. They certainly did with
mine, and I was lucky enough to have a couple of guys come over and look at the car. Close ups of all exterior helps too.
Good luck
