IVAing a 2CV based car
Hi everyone,
Further on to my Burton post, I having been wondering about the process of tackling the DVLA with a "2cv Special". I am hoping the car
will have an unmodified 2CV chassis with a fibreglass body on top. Am I right in thinking if this is the case I will not need an IVA?
As a side note, how do 2CV owners get away with fitting a new chassis to their cars? Is it a case of no-one will ever know is is there a legal way of
doing it?
Im just wondering as I would like to start off with a fresh galvanised chassis to bolt all of the 2cv parts to - Im guessing this would need an IVA
then though!

My understanding is that if the chassis isn't modified no IVA is needed.
You need to get a GSA engine and box in it though!!

I'd investigate further if I was you, but general opinion on many car sites (some have contacted the DVLA to ask) is that if you replace the
chassis like for like, stamp the old number on the new chassis (new chassis usually comes with no number) and destroy the old chassis, then there is
no problem. If so, I would buy the chassis and then register any other relevant changes further down the line, so you can argue that you replaced the
chassis before modifying the vehicle.

involving the DVLA on a direct chassis swap only opens yourself to totally unnecessary pain and additional cost, why put yourself through all that
just for some paper pusher like this to whack a stap on...
Duplicate the old chassis number on the new chassis and job done, you don’t want to put a 2cv based anything through a IVA anyway and defeats the
purpose of using a unmodified chassis in the first place

I replaced the chassis on my 2CV over three days - same as my local 2CV specialist does, why bother with numbers? I don't think the old one had
any numbers stamped in it, it was too rotten anyway to tell. The new one didn't have any but the original numbers stayed on the body tub.
